Talent Development

About

School Development Services' Office of Talent Development provides a continuum of services to local school districts, non-public school and Public School Academies by:

  • supporting our local constituents in identifying students and instructors needs
  • supporting the development of strategies to meet the learners' needs
  • curricular enrichment
  • flexible pacing in the regular classroom
  • more specialized options for learners
  • advocating for proactive responses to the needs of diverse learners in the regular classroom through Differentiated Instruction.

This office works cooperatively with local school districts, Lansing Community College, and Michigan State University to provide challenging educational enrichment opportunities for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Programs

Dimensions 2010

A program designed for students in 7th and 8th grade who participated in the Midwest Academic Talent Search Project for Northwestern University; conducted at Michigan State University.

MASCOT  2010

Mathematics Augmentation Series: Cultivating Optimum Teaching and Learning by improving techniques; using technology, teaming Students and teachers. This is a three week half day program for students currently in grade six.

Kids' College

A two week half -day program designed for students in grades 4 and 5 with high interest in science. This program is an interdisciplinary approach to studying science and technology.

Twenty First Girls Math/Science Conference

A half day program designed to expose female students, in grade 6, to Discovery Presenters which are hands on session, Special Topics for parents and Role Model Panel for parents and educators. The day ends with a closing session for all participants.

NUMATS TALENT SEARCH

Date: SAT Testing - January 13, 2010 

Saturday School

A program designed for 7 Saturdays offering 10 to 15 different enrichment courses for interested students in grades 2 -8. This program is conducted on the campus of Lansing Community Colleges ( main campus and LCC east campus).

Spring Session - April 10 - May 8, 2010 (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)

Fall Session - October 23 - November 20, 2010 (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)
