Early On is a network of services for families of children, birth to three years old. Early On provides these services to children who have a developmental delay, or are at risk of developing delays due to an established medical condition, or have a disability.
Early On staff members work as partners with families to help them find the support they need for their child. There are no income eligibility requirements and these services are offered at no charge to families.
If families have a concern or worry about their child's development, the Early On team encourages families not to wait to see if they "outgrow" the concern. Families can call and make a referral for a free evaluation. Please refer to the
Michigan Early On brochure or the
Ingham County Early On brochure for more information.
Anyone may make a referral to Early On such as a family member, teacher, community member or physician. The first step is to call the Early On secretary at 517.244.4514 to give information about the child and the referring concern(s). The family will be connected with an Early On team member who will meet with them to discuss these concerns and offer a developmental assessment to see how the child is learning and growing. The assessment process will determine if a child is eligible for Early On services.

Early On provides services within a family's daily routines so families might be seen at home, at a day care center/home or at a community play and learn group . We have a schedule that shows where these play and learn groups are held. Early On partners with families who live in Dansville, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Lansing, Leslie, Mason, Okemos, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville and Williamston .
Families talk with Early On staff about their daily routines, the activities they participate in every day. Understanding what life is like for a family helps Early On staff give suggestions and resources for families to support their child better. Families are important partners during visits with Early On, as they actively participate with their child while Early On staff provide guidance and referrals to resources.
Special services are available if a child needs them. These special service providers consult with families, giving them suggestions for activities and strategies that will help their child learn and grow.
Families have certain rights when they are part of the Early On program. Please refer to the
Family Rights brochure for more information.
The Early On staff includes professionals from Ingham Intermediate School District, Ingham County Health Department and Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health.
