Ingham Great Parents, Great Start Receives National Recognition as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate

Ingham Great Parents, Great Start (GPGS) has received a prestigious endorsement from the Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc. (PATNC) as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate, making it one of the top-performing home visiting affiliates within the PATNC’s international network. The official designation was made on October 1, 2019.

Ingham ISD Campus Water Testing Results - PFAS Not Detected

Water test results from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes , and Energy were received in our office last week. The test results show PFAS was not detected in our water at the Thorubrn Education Center and the Wilson Talent Center. We are still waiting on results for Heartwood School.

Gov. Whitmer announces statewide FAFSA Challenge

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan College Access Network’s annual College Cash Campaign received a major boost with the announcement of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s statewide “Governor’s FAFSA Challenge.” The governor is challenging every high school to increase their FAFSA completion rate among graduates of the Class of 2020. Michigan’s 2019 FAFSA completion rate was 55.9%, which was a decrease of 0.7% from the previous year. MCAN seeks to achieve a statewide FAFSA completion rate of 75% in 2020.

Ingham ISD Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Phase One of the Hearts of Fun Playground Installation

On Thursday, October 24, Ingham Intermediate School District hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Phase One of the Hearts of Fun Playground at Heartwood School. Heartwood School serves students ages 3-26 in the Ingham ISD service area who are eligible to receive services under the categories of moderate and severe cognitive impairments, severe multiple impairments and autism spectrum disorders. Staff, students, parents and community members attended the ceremony.

Michigan Makes Gains in National Rankings on Reading Test

Michigan Department of Education Press Release – Michigan continues to climb in the national rankings of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading test, as released today by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB). It marks the second straight two-year testing cycle in which Michigan has gained in the national rankings.

Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Press Release – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recommends communities consult local weather forecasts to determine whether or not to host outdoor activities occurring at or after dusk, due to the possible continuing risk of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Recent cooler temperatures are favorable to reducing exposure to EEE, however, its threat may still exist in certain areas of the state.

Gov. Whitmer Lowers Flags to Honor Former Governor William Milliken

LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and on all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Michigan, to be lowered to half-staff for 14 days — from Saturday, October 19 through Friday, November 1 — to honor each year Governor Milliken served in office.

Lansing Rotary Collects Books for Summer Reading

While learning happens all year long, summer is filled with family trips, outdoor activities and usually a break from traditional structured study time. The Lansing Rotary members wanted to do something special for young learners in the region and decided to hold a book drive. Over 350 books were collected from Lansing Rotary members in May and delivered to Ingham Intermediate School District (ISD) for use with students and families.

The Consortium of Ingham Districts for Internet Services will be migrating to a new provider on Saturday, June 29, 2019. On this date date from 9am to 1pm, all systems relying on Internet Services will be offline including but not limited to web browsing, hosted websites (inghamisd.org, etc), Versa Trans, Munis, access to email while onsite, etc.

Ingham ISD held its biennial board member election Monday, June 3, 2019. Two six-year terms on the Board were up for election with terms beginning on July 1, 2019 and ending on June 30, 2025. One seat was also open for the remaining four-years of a six-year term, beginning on July 1, 2019 and ending on June 30, 2023.

What's Happening on the Corner of Howell & Hagadorn?

As you may remember, the corner of Howell and Hagadorn is being developed into a wildlife habitat by our BioScience Careers class and community partners. Recently, the BioScience Careers students collected soil samples for the purpose of testing to determine the best time to plant the native wildflowers and grasses. Based on those results, planting will take place the last week of May and first week in June.

Wilson Talent Center to Host Annual Year-End Student Showcase May 16

The Wilson Talent Center (WTC) will host its Year-End Student Showcase on Thursday, May 16, from 4:00-7:00pm. The event, now in its tenth year, allows students to showcase the skills they have developed and projects they have created throughout the school year. This event is free and open to the public. The WTC is located on the Ingham Intermediate School District campus at 611 Hagadorn Road in Mason.
